Getting Started: What to Expect
Your First Appointment
During your initial consultation, your physiotherapist will take the time to understand your concerns, assess your movement, joint function, and pain, and discuss your personal goals. You’ll receive a clear explanation of your diagnosis, and a tailored treatment plan designed specifically for you. Where appropriate, treatment may begin at your first appointment.
What to Wear
Please wear comfortable clothing that allows easy movement and access to the area being assessed. For example, shorts are ideal for knee issues, while a vest top is helpful for shoulder or neck assessments. You may be asked to remove outer layers, so dressing in layers can help you feel more comfortable.
Appointment Duration
- Initial consultation: 45 minutes — this allows time for a comprehensive assessment and discussion.
- Follow-up sessions: Typically, 30 minutes, but may vary depending on your condition and treatment needs.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
This varies depending on the nature and severity of your condition, your recovery goals, and how your body responds to treatment.
- Acute conditions: Often resolve in 1–3 sessions.
- Chronic or complex issues: May require a longer treatment programme (e.g. 6–8 sessions).
Your physiotherapist will regularly review your progress and adjust your plan as needed.
